    Scholarships Application Period Open for Online Master’s Degree Program in Project Management 

    The OAS and the University for International Cooperation (UCI) of Costa Rica are offering scholarships for the online program in Project Management, intended for citizens and/or permanent legal residents of any OAS member state, except Costa Rica, who already hold a bachelor’s degree, and who are seeking to develop core competencies and creative thinking skills to successfully implement projects. The program lasts 20 months and the language of instruction is English. The deadline for scholarship applications is October 19, 2018.

    Deadline to Apply for the Virtual Course “Open Government in the Americas”

    The course is intended for public officials, academics and representatives of civil society of the Americas interested in identifying the conceptual grounds for the development of Open Government. The course presents success stories and strategies for the implementation of open government projects focusing on transparency, collaboration and citizen participation. The course will be available only in Spanish and it will be offered through the Virtual Campus of the School of Governance.

    Deadline to Apply for the Virtual Course “Sustainable Public Procurement” 

    The course is intended for public servants, academics and representatives of civil society in the Americas interested in the importance of sustainable public procurement within the framework of government. It encourages national development strategies, and drives efficiency in the purchase of goods, services, and sustainable development. The course will be available only in Spanish and it will be offered through the Virtual Campus of the School of Governance.

    Dialogue on Children’s Rights in Panama

    These workshops are intended for at entities in charge of children, international organizations, civil society and the general public, and aim to exchange the experiences of the States of the region on National Child Rights Protection Systems, early childhood, compliance with Goal 16.2 of the SDGs and children as human rights defenders. The event is organized by tthe Inter-American Children's Institute (IIN) and Senniaf.

    Registration Deadline for the Virtual Course on “Digital Didactic Strategies”

    This online course is aimed at professionals in the field of education or people who wish to venture into it, and seeks to facilitate the development of motivational and innovative educational teaching and content by integrating digital tools into processes of teaching and learning in virtual, face-to-face or mixed environments. Partial scholarships are available for the course, which is taught in Spanish. It is offered by theEducational Portal of the Americas of the OAS.

    MONDAY, OCTOBER  8
    On Site Visits of MESICIC to Haiti, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and the United States

    Experts of the Follow-Up Mechanism to the Inter-American Convention against Corruption (MESICIC), together with members of the OASDepartment of Legal Cooperation, in its capacity as the Technical Secretariat of the Mechanism, will carry out an on-site visit to Haiti, Saint Kitts and Nevis and the United States as part of the review process of the Fifth Round. Experts will meet with government authorities and civil society organizations in order to collect firsthand information on topics such as systems of government hiring and procurement of goods and services; systems for protecting public servants and private citizens who in good faith report acts of corruption; the criminalization of acts of corruption; as well as instructions provided to government personnel on their responsibilities and ethical conduct and preventive measures that take into account the relationship between equitable remuneration and probity in public service.

    Inter-American Judicial Capacity Building Program on the Environmental Rule of Law, 2nd Edition 

    The program is intended for Justices of Peace, as well as constitutional, civil, criminal, and administrative judges, including magistrates with specialized environmental jurisdiction with interest in environmental justice from OAS member states, who will learn about ways of strengthening the capacity of the judiciary for environmental protection and the defense of natural resources, as well as the rule of law and justice.  It is organized by the General Secretariat of the OAS and the Peruvian Judiciary.

    Third Meeting of the Expert Group on Comprehensive and Sustainable Alternative Development

    Under the slogan “Focusing on Local Management of Drug Policies within the development framework”, comprehensive and sustainable alternative development experts from OAS member States will gather in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, to exchange experiences and best practices. The purpose is to close the gap between the UNGASS document and the Hemispheric Plan of Action on Drugs regarding alternative, comprehensive and sustainable development in rural and urban areas. The meeting is organized by the Executive Secretary of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission of the OAS.

    Regional Cybercrime Workshop for Judges in Peru

    During the three days of the event, experts from US Justice Department, Argentina, the OAS and 50 judges from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay will train participants on aspects such as the basics of how the Internet is structured and functions, legal aspects of electronic evidence, international understanding of cybercrime laws, and contemporary cyber investigations challenges.

    Beginning of Webinars on Inclusive Education in Latin America

    The webinars are intended for principals, teachers, parents, the educational community in general, students with and without disabilities, and government authorities that influence and make decisions in these matters. Their aim is to disseminate the theoretical and practical concepts of Inclusive Education and to identify and share best practices in the region, in the common task of transforming the educational system in order to include respect for human diversity in conditions of equity and equality. It is organized by the Department of Social Inclusion of the Organization of American States and the Ibero-American Network on Inclusive Education (DIS) and counts with the support of the School of Governance

    Deadline to Apply to the Virtual Course “The Right to Identity, Civil Registry and Vital Statistics” 

    Intended for public servants, academics and civil society of OAS member states. The course strengthens the technical and operational capacities of civil registry officials in registration procedures, in client service and in the use of technology to integrate excluded communities and improve their quality of life and opportunities. The program raises basic notions and transversal concepts of civil registration and right to identity good registration practices, internal legislation and vital statistics.     First Meeting of CICAD’s Consortium of Universities in OAS Member States

    Academics from universities in Argentina, Chile, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, Paraguay, and Peru, together with the Executive Secretary of the Commission Against Addictions and Illicit Drug Trafficking (SECCATID), the International Consortium of Universities for Drug Demand Reduction (ICUDDR) and Colombo Plan, will present and discuss proposals to develop and coordinate trainings, research and  cooperation with CICAD and other international organizations , to reduce the demand for drugs in universities of the Western Hemisphere. The event is organized by the Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD/OAS).

    15th Meeting of the Latin American and Caribbean Council for Civil Registry, Identity and Vital Statistics 

    Under the theme "Identity as the cornerstone of an integrated digital government strategy, public servants and specialists on Civil Registry of the Americas, will gather in Cartagena , Colombia, to review progress, conclusions, commitments and recommendations derived from the 14th CLARCIEV meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and the III Executive Committee held in Quito, Ecuador in 2017, in order to evaluate the strategies of the region to effectively achieve  universal of birth registration.

Participants will develop technical skills to manage future governance and management skills through individual exercises and group dynamics.     10th Americas Competitiveness Exchange on Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program

    This program is addressed to key leaders and decision makers from the private, public and academic sectors of the Americas and other hemispheres who drive inclusive economic development in their countries, institutions, and communities, in areas such as economics, industry, trade, SMEs and science and technology. The event will showcase successful examples of entrepreneurship, innovation, strategic investments and public-private partnerships from Northern California in the United States. The program is carried out by the OAS in its capacity as the technical secretariat of the Inter-American Competitiveness Network (RIAC); together with the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Department of State, and the Government of Argentina through its Ministry of Production. The program will take place from October the 21 to 27in Northern California, United States.

    Representatives of civil organizations, academics and government officials of Ecuador will meet under the theme “Promoting our rights, visualizing the invisible,” with the aim of promoting and making visible the rights of people with psychosocial disabilities in Ecuador, within the framework of World Mental Health Month. The event is organized by the SQZ FEILADES Foundation, with the cooperation of the OAS, the National Council for the Equality on Disabilities, the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion, and the Ombuds Office of Ecuador.

    First National Congress on Inclusive Education in Ecuador

    Intended for  principals, teachers, parents, the educational community in general, students with and without disabilities, universities, organizations of and for persons with disabilities and government authorities that make decisions in the matter, the congress looks forward to strengthening the training of key actors in the educational sector on theory and practices of Inclusive Education, in order to transform schools into spaces of equity and full respect for human rights in diversity, identifying good practices that are already being carried out at the national level. The event is organized by the Department of Social Inclusion (DIS) of the OAS, with the Cantonal Disability Agreement Committee of Guayaquil and Trust for the Americas.

    Workshop “Product Safety in the Markets of the Americas and Consumer Protection”

    Addressed to authorities and representatives of  Consumer Safety and Health Network (CSHN), public servants, representatives of Civil Society, students or people interested in the topic, the workshop will contribute to strengthening the institutional capacity of competent government agencies for market surveillance in the safety of consumer products, including the generation and dissemination of national security alerts and their communication to the regional warning system, with a systemic, inter-institutional and interdisciplinary approach, and due attention to the participation and involvement of civil society and health authorities. The event is organized by the OAS as Technical Secretariat of the CSHN, with the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property of Peru and with support of the School of Governance.
